Stockinette Stitch Socks

Makes socks with foot 10 5/16" long, leg 5 5/8" long, leg 12" circumference (women's size 10). Make 2.

Yarn
2 skeins Sensations Bamboo & Ewe
Gauge: 28 sts X 36r = 4” X 4” on size 3 needles
Needles
set of 5 #3 dpn

Leg
CO 56 sts using two-needle CO and distribute sts so that there are 14 sts on each of 4 dpn. Work 1" (9 rnds) in single rib, beg each rnd with a K st. Work 4 5/8" (44 rnds) in garter st (looks like St st).

Heel Flap
Slip 28 sts from first two needles onto one needle for the heelp flap. Work back and forth on the 28 heel flap sts as follows:
Row 1 (WS): Slip 1 pwise, P to end, turn.
Row 2 (RS): *Slip 1 pwise, K1, rep from * to end, turn.
Rep Rows 1 and 2 until heel flap measures 2" (24r) in length, ending with a RS r.

Turn Heel
Row 1 (WS): p15, p2tog, p1, turn.
Row 2 (RS): Slip 1 pwise, K7, K2tog, K1, turn.
Row 3: Slip 1 pwise, p8, p2tog, p1, turn.
Row 4: Slip 1 pwise, K9, K2tog, K1, turn.
Cont in this manner -- sipping the first st pwise, working across to 1 st before the gap, working the 2 sts on each side of the gap tog, then working 1 more st and turning the work -- until 16 sts rem.

Gusset
Pick up 12 sts on each side of the heel flap. Rearrange sts so that needle 1 (with the live string) has 16 sts, needle 2 has 18 sts, needle 3 has 16 sts, and needle 4 has 28 sts.
Rnd 1: K all sts.
Rnd 2: Needle 1: K all sts; needle 2: K1, K2tog, K to end of needle; needle 3: K all sts; needle 4: K to last 3 sts, K2tog, K1.
The two lines of dec should beon either side of heel flap. Rep Rnds 1 an 2 until needles 2 and 4 have 13 sts rem. End on Rnd 2. Slip 2 sts from either end of needle 1 onto needles 2 and 4. Needle 1 now has 12 sts, needles 2 and 4 have 11 sts, and needle 3 has 16 sts.

Foot
Cont in garter st without dec until foot measures 6 11/16" (45 rnds).

Toe
Rnd 1: Needle 1: K to last 3 sts, K2tog, K1; needle 2: K1, K2tog, K to end; needle 3: K to last 3 sts, K2tog, K1; needle 4: K1, K2tog, K to end.
Rnd 2: K all sts.
Rep Rnds 1 and 2 until 30 sts rem, ending with Rnd 1. Rep Rnd 1 only until 14 sts rem. After completing the last rnd, remove marker, and rearrange sts so that there are 7 sts on each needle.

Finishing
Cut yarn, leaving an 8" tail. Use Kitchener st to graft toe sts tog. Weave in ends. Steam block.

Harry Potter Tube Scarves

This is the scarf pattern from movies PoA, GoF and OotP. In the first two movies, the scarves are just blocks of color and very boring.

Finishing
Wet block all pieces. Use the mattress stitch for all sewing (instructions below). Sew top of Right Side Panel to the top of Back Panel (the shoulder seam). Sew up the side seam from the hemline to the the BO. Do the same with Left Side Panel. Sew up the sleeves and attach to the armholes, the seam of the sleeve on the underside. Knit the neck band. Sew on the buttons.

Neck Band
Using #7 needles, pick up 90 sts (2 sts for every 3r) around the neckline of the sweater. Work 5r in K1, p1 rib. BO all sts. Connect to button band using mattress stitch.

Mattress Stitch
Lay the pieces side by side, RS up. Begin by using the tail from the CO of the right piece. Insert the needle into the corner st of the left piece. Then insert the needle from back to front in the corner st of the right piece. On the left piece, pull the edge st slightly away from the st next to it, so that the back of the st (the part that looks like a garter st) is shown. Insert the needle into the back of the st. Pull the yarn loosely through the st, and then insert the needle through the parallel st on the right piece. Work back and forth. After working a few rows, pull the yarn in the direction of the seam (not towards you). Do not pull the yarn so tight that the pieces begin to pucker. Finish by connecting the corner sts and weaving the yarn into the WS.
