tapestry needle, 1 white button and 2 black buttons, 7" X 11.5" rice-filled bag (see below knitting instructions for directions on making the bag)
Body
Work in St st.
Co 12 sts.
Row 1: P all sts.
Row 2: Inc every st -- 24 sts.
Row 4: Inc every st -- 48 sts.
Row 6: *Inc 1 st, K3. Rep through r -- 60 sts.
Work in St st until piece measures 5.5" End on a P r.
Next row: K4, YO, K3tog. K2. Inc 1 st. K through r.
Next K row: K 20 sts. Cont in St st using Fairisle pattern.
Row (1): *K5, k2tog. Rep from * through r.
Row (3): *K4, K2tog. Rep from * through r.
Row (5): *K3, K2tog. Rep from * through r.
Row (7): *K2, K2tog. Rep from * through r.
Row (9): *K1, K2tog. Rep from * through r.
Rows (11 and (13): K2tog. through r.
Cut a long tail and wave thru sts. Sew the top 3" of head closed. Sew closed the bottom of body and the bottom 3" of body.

Wings
Work in St st.
Pick up 6 sts from side of owl in same r as top of beak.
Row 1: P all sts.
Row 2: Inc 1 st. K4. Inc 1 st. 8 sts total.
Row 4: Inc 1 st. K6. Inc 1 st. 10 sts total.
Row 6: Inc 1 st. K8. Inc 1 st. 12 sts total.
Row 8: Inc 1 st. K10. Inc 1 st. 14 sts total.
Rows 9 -- 13: Work in St st.
Decreasing Pattern
Work in Decreasing Pattern for every r until 1 st rem.
K2tog, K sts until 2 sts rem on r, K2tog.
Finishing
Sew the black buttons on her eyes and the white button on her back (so that you can close her up when the bag is inside of her).
Bed-warming Bag
Sew a bag that's finished dimensions are 7" X 11.5". Fill the bag with rice (and lavender or another sweet-smelling herb if you choose). Heat the bag for 2 minutes and 30 seconds, then put inside Hedwig.
